Notre Noël en Arizona ~ Our Christmas in Arizona

On our way to Yuma, we went by Hwy 86 to the small town of Why and then Hwy 85 to Ajo and finally we toke the I-8 back at Gila Bend. We went on to Yuma to meet our friends at the BLM (LTVA) in Pilot Knob.

Before Christmas, we decorated the interior of the trailer with garlands and our little Christmas tree. Another day, we visited other BLMs, the flea market and the famous Harbor Freight store. We also managed to cook a dinner in the slow cooker with electricity from the solar panels.

On Christmas Eve, we went to the Champion Church to see a live Nativity Show "Jesus is Born". This play was staged with great decor with a horse, some donkeys and sheep. We were sitting on hay bales. It was an extraordinary play. Then we went for a stroll on a street decorated with Christmas lights.

On Christmas Day, we helped organize a Christmas Luck Pot with some twenty of our desert friends. We ate well, played games and chatted all afternoon.

This was our first Christmas away from the family.

En route pour l'Arizona ~ On our way to Arizona

  • Glory Road
  • The Day After Tomorrow
  • Saving Jessica Lynch
  • On the Border
  • Courage Under Fire
  • Extreme Prejudice
  • Death of an Angel
  • Lone Wolf McQuade
  • The Border
  • Resurrection

We stop at the White Sands National Monument near Alamogordo, New Mexico. Here we saw huge dunes of fine white sand. We also visited the New Mexico Space Museum nearby. The next morning we were forced with all the other vehicles to wait 40 minutes on the road because there was a missile launch from the nearby military base.

During our stay in Tucson AZ, we visited the PIMA Air andSpace Museum, where there is a huge collection of military and other aircrafts. C'est un départ - On our Way

What a departure. Before heading south, we always stop to check the trailer one last time and this is where we noticed that one of the rear wheels on the trailer fell off. We immediately stopped and there were 3 or 4 cars on the ramp behind us and they looked puzzled. We picked up the wheel, placed it in the back of the truck, then we rolled slowly for about 1 km to the Canadian Tire. We were able to have the wheel repaired in Kemptville, and after a 4 hours delay, we were back on the road. We arrived in Erie, PA, at 10:30 pm on Monday night. We had a 15 hour day.

This week the days were beautiful, but the evenings were cold, for there was a cold front in the north. On our way, we saw several places we had visited in the past, such as the Corvette Museum, the Mammoth Cave National Park and the Natchez Trace. In Natchez Trace, we walked to the highest point in Mississippi, in one of two beautiful free campgrounds where we stayed. In Texas, we stopped to camp in a municipal park in Junction. It is a park with a great view on the edge of a small river and is free for campers.
